Moscow has taken a year to find a candidate for the general secretaries “gas OPEC”

The government of Russia after nearly a year looking for determining a candidate for the post of Secretary General of the Forum countries – exporters of gas (GECF), which the press is often called “gas OPEC”. The newspaper Kommersant wrote that Russia candidate as the head of the GECF will Leonid Bokhanovsky, vice president of the company Stroitransgaz. Previously, all potential applicants from Russia refused to fight for his proposed position.

The newspaper wrote that the candidate for the post of Secretary-General GECF Russia will provide in Doha on November 9. This position is crucial for the Organization, as a person occupying this position must ensure the development of budget and program forum, as well as manage their work. Take this post for two years, the candidate may be only if his nomination approved by a unanimous decision of all the energy ministers of the participating countries of the Forum.

In December 2008, members of the GECF found that the residence of the executive committee will GECF in Doha. According to Kommersant, Moscow, who suggested St. Petersburg, agreed to this provided that the Secretary-General shall be the representative of Russia.

In accordance with the charter of the GECF, Secretary General of the Organization must be proficient in English, have 15 years experience in the industry and be at least 45 years. It includes Iran, Algeria, Brunei, Bolivia, Indonesia, Libya, Malaysia, Russia, Nigeria, UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Trinidad and Tobago, Chile, Equatorial Guinea. They belong to 73 per cent of world gas reserves, while they provide 42 per cent of world production. Norway and Kazakhstan has observer status in the GECF.
